The three-cushion European championship in 1963 was the 21st tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from March 27 to 31, 1963 in Brussels . It was the second three-cushion European championship in Brussels after 1947.

history

Since Raymond Ceulemans and Johann Scherz both had 14-2 points on their account after the final round, a playoff for the European title had to decide. Ceulemans won this with 60:53 in 61 shots . He was annoying for the Austrian because he was able to win in the final round with his best tournament game with 60:48 in 46 shots. His downfall was the preliminary round defeat against Raymond Steylaerts with 54:60 in 68 shots. The new and old European champion set a new European record in the general average (GD) with 1.238 . Ernst Rudolph from Cologne had bad luck . He was equal on points in group B with the Portuguese Egidio Vieira. Only the fifth place behind the decimal point prevented him from progressing to the final round. He finished ninth with a draw against Søren Søgaard from Denmark.

mode

The game was played in two preliminary round groups “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with an equal number of additional points . The groups consisted of five players each. The last two in the group were eliminated. The game points from the preliminary round were taken into the final round. The games against the eliminated players were not rated in the final table. Ninth place was played out.
