The three-cushion European championship in 1998 was the 55th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 1 to 3 May 1998 in Aubagne in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône . It was the eighth three-cushion European Championship in France.

history

After the disagreements between the BWA and the UMB were resolved, all the best players in Europe took part in this European Championship. With Torbjörn Blomdahl , the current world champion also became European champion. In the final he defeated Martin Horn from Essen 3-0 sets and won the European Championship for the sixth time. For Horn it was the first medal in three cushion at European Championships. He played a very strong tournament and beat the strong Italian Marco Zanetti in the quarter-finals as well as the Spaniard Daniel Sánchez in the semi-finals . Against Sánchez it was the revenge for the quarter-final defeat last year. The other two German participants Christian Rudolph and Stefan Galla lost in the first round, whereby the defeat of former world champion Rudolph after 2-0 set lead against Hungary's Peter Banyai was a sensation.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. The entire tournament was played on three sets of 15 points each. Third place was no longer played out. There was a bronze medal for each of the losers in the semi-finals.
