The three-cushion European championship in 1962 was the 20th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from March 7 to 11, 1962 in Kaatsheuvel in the province of North Brabant . The European Championship was originally awarded to Groningen . For organizational reasons, however, the EM could not be held. So Kaatsheuvel stepped in at short notice.

history

The Belgian Raymond Ceulemans secured the title of European three-cushion champion for the first time after the Belgian. There was only one defeat against local hero Henny de Ruijter and a narrow win with 60:59 in 62 shots against the very defensive French Roger Hanoun . Otherwise none of the actors could get him into trouble. For the defending champion Johann Scherz only the second place remained despite an excellent GD of 1.015. The German August Tiedtke awarded a better placement only because of his very offensive style of play. As a result, he always gave his opponents good entry opportunities through good ball positions. In the relatively small café on the lake, in which the grandstands were set up to the ceiling, the spectators crowded every day to the last free angle. The television also broadcast the final games on the weekend.

mode

The game was played in two preliminary round groups “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with an equal number of additional points . The groups consisted of five players each. The last two in the group were eliminated. The game points from the preliminary round were taken into the final round. The games against the eliminated players were not rated in the final table. Ninth place was played out.
