Aeropuerto de La Albericia

Aeropuerto de La Albericia was the first airfield in Cantabria , it was located in the municipality of La Albericia , a modern district of Santander .

history

The airfield was established in 1910 and was in operation until September 1953. It received its greatest importance during the Spanish Civil War . After the city was conquered, it was also used as a location for the German Condor Legion . The Heinkel He 111 of Kampfgruppe 88 were stationed there in 1937. In 1948 the runway RWY 09/27 was paved with a length of 1500 meters and the Iberia opened the scheduled air traffic Santander-Madrid.

After the opening of the newly built Aeropuerto de Parayas , the sports center “Complejo Deportivo de La Albericia” was built on the original airfield site. The Spanish football club Racing Santander acquired the site from the municipality and had its home ground there until 1988.
