Henny de Ruijter or Ruyter (older spelling) (born December 24, 1929 in Waalwijk , Netherlands ; † April 12, 2013 ibid) was a Dutch collision player in the three- cushion discipline and entrepreneur.
Career
Through his older brother Kees de Ruijter , Henny developed into one of the best three- cushion players in the Netherlands. He was the first to win the national title with a general average (GD) of more than 1,000. De Ruijter was known for his “pure” technique. With his team "Van den Brand" he won several national and international titles. At national level, Henny was in the final every year from 1957 to 1967, winning gold medals at the Dutch three- cushion championships five times , with old master Herman Popeijus and the newcomers Cees van Oosterhout and Rini van Bracht being his greatest competitors. In 1974 he won his last national medal with bronze. Internationally he was also well positioned, but had to assert himself against the "invincible" Raymond Ceulemans. De Ruijter won silver at the European Championship in 1961 and bronze at the World Championship in 1971 .
Entrepreneur
From his father Dirk de Ruijter he took over the “Café City” on the market in Waalwijk, which he ran very successfully with his wife Annie. Billiards played an important role in the café, and he looked after his customers between training sessions. In the mid-80s, Henny and Annie had to retire from business operations for health reasons and handed it over to their son of the same name, who has continued to run it to date.
Honors
- Waalwijk honored the brothers by naming the “Kees en Henny de Ruijterstraat”. ⊙
