The three-cushion European championship has been held in the three- cushion carom variant since 1932 . It usually takes place once a year. It has been organized by the European carom billiards association CEB ( Confédération Européenne de Billard ) since 1958 , previously by the Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) and Fédération Internationale de Billard (FIB).
history
Until the Second World War, European championships were only held in the disciplines cadre 45/2, cadre 45/1 and three- cushion, and that was rather irregular. Only after the war (1947) was a regular annual cycle introduced. The 1995/96 season was an exception. This had to do with the federation disputes between the world association Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) and the Billiards Worldcup Association (BWA). It also meant that the players under contract with the BWA were not allowed to participate in the European Championship from 1993 to 1997.
In the 1956/57 season there had already been two associations. The dispute over sports and management policy within the Union Internationale des Fédérations d'Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) culminated in the re-establishment of the competing association Fédération Internationale de Billard (FIB) and the double European championships in the free game disciplines , Cadre 71 / 2 and three volume 1957. In the following year the disputes were settled and the UIFAB was again the sole European association. This merger was expressed through the re-establishment or renaming to Confédération Européenne de Billard (CEB) on July 12, 1958.
mode
The game was played from 1932 to 1958 and from 1985 to 1987 at a distance of 50 points and from 1960 to 1984 to 60 points. From 1988 the tournament was played in a set system up to 15 points (three winning sets). Starting in 2012, up to 30 points will be played in the preliminary round and up to 40 points from the round of 16.
From the 2012/13 season onwards, the European championships will be held every two years in Brandenburg an der Havel in a mammoth tournament with all disciplines.

Records
The record winner is the Belgian Raymond Ceulemans with 23 titles, the current title holder is Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden.
European records can also be set at world championships, world cup tournaments, all-around tournaments and team competitions.
The best GD of a player at an EM was achieved by Marco Zanetti in 2013 with 2,500. The official European record stands at 2.777, set by Daniel Sánchez at the Three Cushion World Cup 2017 in Luxor, Egypt .
Dick Jaspers played the best game up to 40 points (40 in 8 recordings = 5,000) in 2012 in Istanbul. Torbjörn Blomdahl played up to 50 points in 1985 at the European team in Copenhagen and Raymond Ceulemans in 1986 at the World Cup in Las Vegas 2,631 ED. Raymond Ceulemans played up to 60 points at the European Championship in Dortmund in 1972, 2,857 ED. In the sentence system, the best performance is 5,625 ED, played by Dick Jaspers in Florange in 2008.
Dick Jaspers holds the official European record for the best individual average . Positioned in the German Billiard Bundesliga. On January 22nd, 2018 he scored 40 points in 10 shots, i.e. 10.00 , for his Bundesliga club 1. BC Magdeburg 1950.
Officially, there are no longer any prolonged series because sets are only played up to 15 points. Still, it should be mentioned that Dick Jaspers finished a sentence in Florange with 13 points, kicked out the next sentence in one shot, and started the following sentence with 6. That would be a prolonged series of 34 points. This has never happened in official tournaments in the long history of billiards. The official European record is held by Frédéric Caudron from Belgium with 28 points, placed at the three-cushion European Championship 2013 in Brandenburg an der Havel .
Tournament record development
With the set system, the best individual average (ED) is only scored in the game on 3 winning sets, without a set system on at least 40 points.

1 In 1957, two European championships were held by the rival and quarreling associations Union Internationale des Fédérations d'Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) and Fédération Internationale de Billard (FIB). Since the players could only belong to one association at a time, the field of participants at the respective European championships was very different.
