Ölüdeniz is a municipality in the Turkish region of Lycia, 14 km south of Fethiye at the foot of Mount Babadağ . The village was originally called Belceğiz, but eventually got its name from the nearby Ölüdeniz Beach. The name translates as Dead Sea , as the water of the lagoon is particularly calm for most of the year and there are hardly any waves. The sea is particularly clear at this point, which is also known as the Blue Lagoon , and glows in various shades of turquoise and aquamarine. There are both sections with a sandy beach and sections with gravel, which has been partially heaped up. The Ölüdeniz beach has been awarded the Blue Flag as a sign of special water quality. Between April and December, the beach is a very popular travel destination and therefore quite crowded. This changed the original character of the village a lot. There are now numerous hotels and pensions, some of which are very close to the beach. Most tourists travel to the nearest airport in Dalaman or Antalya airport . Parts of the beach, especially the sandy beach at the river mouth, are chargeable.

The beach of Ölüdeniz is not only a popular bathing bay, but also known and loved by paragliders. The Babadağ mountain , which is also accessed by a road, is particularly suitable for this . The Lycian Way , which runs over 509 km along the Lycian coast and ends at Olympos , also starts from Ölüdeniz .
