Dalaman is a small town in the province of Muğla on the southwestern Mediterranean coast of Turkey . Dalaman is also the name of the district (İlçe).

The paper industry , the agricultural industry and Dalaman International Airport play an important role economically . The opening of the airport around 1987 encouraged the development of tourism in the region. It is served by international charter airlines between April and November . There are regular connections to Istanbul and Ankara all year round .

Important tourist centers in the Dalaman region are, for example, Dalyan , Marmaris and Fethiye as well as the holiday resort of Sarıgerme .

In Dalaman there is a station building without any connection to the rail network. Originally, the Ottoman viceroy of Egypt, Abbas II , who was enthusiastic about hunting, planned to build his own hunting lodge in 1905. At the same time he planned to build a train station in Egypt. However, since the shipments and the construction plans got mixed up, the workers in Dalaman received the instructions and materials for the train station that was actually planned in Egypt. So instead of the hunting lodge, a train station with a ticket counter and allegedly even rails were built. Today it is the seat of the local Chamber of Agriculture.

The Akköprü Dam was built on the Dalaman River of the same name in 2008 .
