Dalyan is a place in southwest Turkey ( Muğla Province ) in Ortaca County .

Dalyan is a well-known Turkish holiday destination on the Dalyan Canal , which connects Lake Köyceğiz Gölü to the Mediterranean via the Dalyan Delta . It is also popular with day trippers. Market day is Saturday.

There are numerous ancient cultural sites and natural beauties in its vicinity. These include the rock tombs of the ancient city of Kaunos , which date from the fourth century BC, as well as ruins from Roman times - including a theater, an agora , a nymphaeum and numerous other buildings. The inhabitants of ancient Kaunos also used the nearby İztuzu beach as a port. In 1988 British conservationists prevented a hotel project here in order to preserve a spawning area for loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) . İztuzu Beach is still closely monitored to protect the turtles. But bathing is possible. In 2014 the beach was leased by the private company Dalcev and is to be used commercially. The local population tries to stop the construction machines with sit-in blocks. The managing director of Dalcev is Ramazan Oruc, a well-known member of the ruling AKP . What the company is planning on the beach is still a secret.

The local water supply system and the water treatment plant are German development projects. A colony of British and German pensioners has settled in the village of Dalyan .
