The three-cushion European championship in 1974 was the 32nd tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 11 to 16 December 1973 in Eeklo in the Belgian province of East Flanders . It was the third three-cushion European Championship in Belgium in the last five years.

history

As is so often the case in recent years, the tournament winner was almost certain before the first push. As a big favorite, Raymond Ceulemans won without a point of loss. In the game against Jan Doggen from the Netherlands , Ceulemans started with the new European record high series (HS) of 20 points. For the first time, the tournament was held with twelve participants in the “everyone against everyone” system. As a result, the championship had to start on Tuesday. For Dieter Müller , who was able to become German three-cushion champion for the first time, the tournament only ended in ninth place despite an attractive performance. He just lacked experience in three-cushion play. The tournament average of 0.937 showed how strong Eeklo was played . A figure never achieved at European championships.

mode

The game was played in the system “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with additional push / equal intake .
