The three-cushion European championship in 1987 was the 45th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 5th to 8th March 1987 in Waalwijk in the Dutch province of North Brabant . It was the tenth three-cushion European Championship in the Netherlands.

history

For the first time a three-cushion EM was played with 20 participants. Raymond Ceulemans was there again and secured his 22nd title in three cushion. In the final against defending champion Torbjörn Blomdahl he never got into trouble and clearly won 50:38 in 32 shots. It was a bit unfortunate for the Dutchman Rini van Bracht . He only lost one game in the tournament and ended up fifth. The two German participants Hans-Jürgen Kühl and Edgar Bettzieche did not get beyond the preliminary round. In his last game against Jyri Vartanen from Finland, Kühl showed his skills once again. In 28 recordings he played a great game and won with 50:22. The Austrian cadre specialist Franz Stenzel managed the knockout round but was only eighth.

mode

In the preliminary round, the game was played in the “everyone against everyone” system with up to 50 points with an equal number of additional points . The first two in the group qualified for the quarter-finals. The losers in the knockout games played out places three to eight.
