The three-cushion European championship 2007 was the 64th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 17th to 20th, 2007 in Salon-de-Provence in the French department Bouches-du-Rhône. It was the ninth three-cushion European Championship in France.
history
The European Championship was perfectly organized and was broadcast live on the Internet for the first time in cooperation with Kozoom , which, according to Kozoom, was also used by 20,000 billiards fans worldwide. All favorites prevailed in the group stage. Unfortunately, none of the German and Austrian participants got into the knockout phase. In the second round, Torbjörn Blomdahl and Marco Zanetti , two former world champions, had to give up the sails. With Frédéric Caudron , Daniel Sánchez and Dick Jaspers, three other former world champions and the reigning world champion Eddy Merckx qualified for the semi-finals . In an all-Belgian final, Eddy Merckx showed that he was the best three-cushion player of the 2006/07 season. After the world championship title, he also secured the European title for the first time in a very exciting final against defending champion Frédéric Caudron, who was able to achieve all the best in the tournament.
mode
The tournament was played with 32 participants. In the group games, two sets of 15 points were used to win. From the round of 16 onwards there were three sets of wins per game. Third place was no longer played out.
