The three-cushion European championship in 1986 was the 44th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from January 29 to February 1, 1986 in Bad Mondorf . It was the first three-cushion European Championship in Luxembourg.

history

Torbjörn Blomdahl confidently defended his three-cushion title from last year. Without the participation of Raymond Ceulemans , the battle for places two to four was fierce. They authorized the actors to take part in the World Championship in Las Vegas . The biggest surprise of the tournament was the Spaniard Avelino Rico who won the silver medal. He took part in the European Championships sporadically since 1963 and never stood out for special achievements. The bronze medal from Jorge Theriaga could not necessarily be expected before the start of the tournament. The German champion Hans-Jürgen Kühl from Essen also expected good chances for the World Cup. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to fifth place. Johann Scherz , who had participated in almost all European championships since 1957, played his last European Championship in Bad Mondorf.

mode

In the preliminary round, the game was played in the “everyone against everyone” system with up to 50 points with an equal number of additional points . The first two in the group qualified for the quarter-finals. The losers in the knockout games played out places three to eight.
