Lennart Blomdahl (born November 22, 1939 ) is a Swedish carom player , world and European three-cushion champion . He is the father of Torbjörn Blomdahl .

Private

Lennart Blomdahl lived in Gothenburg during his childhood . He never met his biological father and never had a reason to contact him, because he was raised very lovingly by his stepfather. He described his mother as something between Astrid Lindgren and Mother Teresa. He and his nine year younger brother received a lot of encouragement in everything they did and felt very much loved. After school, Lennart Blomdahl had some odd jobs, then he became a truck driver. This chore lasted seven years, after which he became a scaffolding worker. He met his wife Berit, who is six months younger, 19 years old. The couple also have one daughter, Eva, who is a teacher.

The fact that billiards became his greatest pleasure is due to chance. During his vacation time he played table tennis with friends and lost. On the way back they passed a pool table and a friend asked him: "Do we want to play"? From then on, this sport never let go of him. During a Swedish championship he met the player Frans Frank. He became his teacher and friend, as did Torbjörn. When the Blomdahls and Frank had the opportunity to open a billiards club in Helsingborg , they took the chance and moved to Skåne . They opened a billiard hall on Carl-Krook-Strasse in the south of the city and founded the BK Borgen billiard club . From 1974 until the late 1970s, when the oil crisis started, both families made a good living from it. But due to the oil crisis, the rent rose from € 4,000 to € 11,0000 and they had to give up. Lennart then worked as a process worker for 25 years, first at Boliden , then later at Kemira. He worked a lot of overtime there, the only way he could afford to take part in international tournaments.

Career

Lennart Blomdahl's active time was the 1960s to the early 2000s. Unlike his son Torbjörn, he has not been so successful at international tournaments, but has won around 70 Swedish titles, the first in 1961. Together with Torbjörn they formed the Swedish national team from 1985, where they won their first silver medal. In 1987 they won the first gold medal together in Madrid. He achieved his best performance at the three-cushion European championship in Viersen in 1989 , when he won the final against French Richard Bitalis 2-0 . There was almost a father / son final if Bitalis hadn't relegated Blomdahl Junior to third place in the semifinals. Blomdahl Senior almost wasn't there. He qualified as the 16th and last player for the tournament and then won it. An incident that still cheers him up to this day. At the European Championships in Cairo in 1992 he just missed the medal ranks with a 4th place. In the semifinals he failed to Francis Connesson from France. He had previously defeated Torbjörn in the quarter-finals, otherwise it would have led to another father / son duel.

With the club he founded, BK Borgen , he won the Coupe d'Europe five times .
