Kang Dong-koong (born March 16, 1980 ) is a South Korean carom player in the disciplines of single-binding and three-cushion .
Career
Since the 2000s, Korea has developed into an internationally ambitious collision nation. The pioneer was Sang Chun Lee , who emigrated to the USA and repeatedly trained players in his native country in the 1990s. The first internationally successful players include Kim Kyung-roul and Choi Sung-won , first Korean world champion in 2014. Since 2007, Kang Dong-koong has also performed well in international tournaments, although not always a podium. In 2011 he finished third at the Asian Championships, won the World Cup in front of a home crowd in Guri that same year and the silver medal in Hurghada the following year . Kang was close to the second Korean victory at the 2015 World Cup in Bordeaux . At the regular end of the game against the Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl it was 40:40, it went into overtime with a penalty . Blomdahl won this 2-1 and Kang had to be satisfied with the silver medal. A month earlier he was able to win the Masters launched by the Korean company LG . In the semifinals he first defeated Blomdahl, in the final then the multiple world champion Dick Jaspers from the Netherlands. His reward was € 38,000, one of the highest prize money in the Carambolale in recent decades. Due to his good playing performance, Kang was invited to the Lausanne Billard Masters 2016 together with his compatriot Cho Jae-ho . After Choi Sung-won 2014 and 2015, both players are among the only non-Europeans to have received this honor. After a successful group stage, in which he finished tied with Frédéric Caudron and Torbjörn Blomdahl, he made it to the finals because of his better general average (GD) before Blomdahl. In the semifinals he was defeated by Daniel Sánchez from Spain, just under 38:40 and together with the Italian Marco Zanetti won the bronze medal.
UMB lock 2019
In spring 2019 he signed a contract with the newly formed Professional Billiards Association (of Korea) PBA. Since the PBA is not a member of the UMB, players who take part in PBA tournaments are banned from participating in the tournament for one year, up to a maximum of three years. This ended his UMB season at the end of the 2018/19 season.
