Choi Sung-won (also Sung-won Choi; born April 30, 1977 ) is a professional South Korean carom player and world champion.

Private

Choi Sung-Won is known as a silent player in the billiards circus, which is partly due to the fact that he hardly speaks English. He is also considered modest and matter-of-fact, which is also reflected in his style of play.

Career

With the leading South Korean player Kim Kyung-roul and Cho Jae-ho , he forms the carom elite in his country. Since 2007, the Korean has been among the 32 best on the international stage. Starting with 29th place in the three-cushion World Cup in his native Seoul , he played his way up to 14th place in the following World Cup. In the same year he came first on the 12th, then on the 5th place in this tournament series. His greatest successes so far are winning the three-cushion world championship 2014 and the AGIPI Billiard Masters 2011 as well as the 2011 World Cup in Antalya. There he beat the local hero Tayfun Taşdemir 3-2 sets. The runner-up in the 2012 World Cup in Porto, where he lost to Eddy Merckx in the final with 24:40 points, complements his successful portfolio.

On August 31, 2014, Choi improved the Korean series record to 26 points. He exceeded the previous record of 24 by 2 points, set by Heo Jung-han . Another 2 points were missing to set the world record of 28.
