The three-cushion world championship for national teams 2020 is the 34th edition of this tournament, which has been held annually since 1981 in the three- cushion discipline of the billiard variant of carom . It should take place from March 5th to 8th, 2020 in the city of Viersen , which has been a permanent venue for the World Cup since 1990. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , the edition of the tournament by the German Billard Union - in consultation with the city of Viersen and the Union Mondiale de Billard - was canceled by President Farouk El Barki on February 27 at a UMB press conference . According to Helmut Biermann, DBU President and thus co-organizer, says that the World Cup will be rescheduled in the course of the year, if possible, but it is difficult to set a new date ad hoc because of the full UMB game calendar.

Game mode

As of 2016, only 16 teams will play at this world championship. This makes the tournament schedule easier to plan. The defending champion and the host country are seeded.

  1. Title holder (here: Turkey)TurkeyTurkey
  2. Organizing nation (here: Germany)GermanyGermany

From 2020, the old tournament mode from 2016 will be returned to. No more matches will be abandoned once the winner has been determined. All games are played to the end.

Up to 40 points are played in the group stage. A tie in the match is possible. It is played with a push .

From the knockout round there is an extension in the scotch doubles system in the event of a tie . All four players play in alternating mode up to 15 points. The first team to reach 15 points wins the match. The players both remain at the table during the scotch double. You can consult with every push. The 30-second rule must not be exceeded. There is no follow-up.

The time limit is 30 seconds per shot. Four extensions of 30 seconds each are possible per game . The extension is no longer announced, but is extended automatically. After the shot, the referee tells the player that a time-out has been used. The ranking is determined as follows:

  1. Matchpoints ( MP )
  2. Team General Average (MGD)
  3. Maximum series ( HS )

Third place has not been played out since 2004. There are two bronze medals.
