The three-cushion world championship for national teams in 2015 was the 29th edition of this tournament, which has been held annually since 1981 in the three- cushion discipline of the billiard variant of carom . It took place from February 26th to March 1st, 2015 in the city of Viersen , which has been a permanent venue for the World Cup since 1990.
Game mode
Usually the tournament is played with 24 teams. However, if fewer teams report, B-teams will be admitted according to the following allocation mode:
- Title holder (here: Belgium)
- Organizing nation (here: Germany)
- Next nation according to world rankings (here: Korea)
There are some changes in the game mode. No more matches will be abandoned once the winner has been determined. All games are played to the end.
Since 2013, the sentence system has not been used any more, but 40 points. A tie is possible in the group stage. It is played with a push . From the knockout round there is an extension in the scotch doubles system in the event of a tie . All four players play in alternating mode up to 15 points. The first team to reach 15 points wins the match. There is no follow-up.
Third place has not been played out since 2004. There are two bronze medals. The time limit is 40 seconds per shot. Two extensions of 40 seconds each are possible per game . The ranking is determined as follows:

comment
In Group A, defending champion Belgium prevailed. Switzerland as a blatant outsider came last. In the match for the group victory between Belgium and Portugal, Frédéric Caudron played against Pierre Alain Rech with 40 points in 10 admissions, i.e. 4,000 GD, the best game of the tournament.
Group B, with Germany A, did not bring any big surprises. In the final for the group victory there was the expected final between Germany and Italy. After Christian Rudolph's 40:30 victory over Salvatore Papa, the game between Martin Horn and two-time world champion Marco Zanetti decided the match. In a high-class game, Horn just won 40:38 in 16 shots.
Turkey, which had always been one of the favorites in recent years, clearly prevailed in Group C. Colombia and the Czech Republic drew and Turkey won both matches 4-0.
Korea A already showed in the games in the group stage that a victory at the World Cup is only possible with this team. In the first group D games, Heo Jung-han and Cho Jae-ho showed their class. With 160 points in 80 recordings in two games, i.e. 2,000 team average (MGD), they were the best team in the group games after defending champions Belgium.
Due to the very short-term cancellation by Ecuador it was not possible for the organizer to provide a replacement team. So there was a duel between Spain and Greece in Group E. In both games, each player won a match. So it came to a tie. But Spain scored 158 points in 109 shots and played the better MGD with 1,449. Greece scored 144 points in 109 shots and 1.321 MGD.
The strongest group in the preliminary round, with the Netherlands, Belgium B and France, was group F. This was also shown at the bottom of the table. All teams had 2: 2 match points and 4: 4 game points. The French Jérémy Bury played very well, winning both games. Since his team-mate Jean-Christophe Roux did not perform as usual, France was only last. In the decisive final group game everything looked like Belgium B would win. Eddy Leppens and Roland Forthomme started very well and both led clearly. In the end, Dick Jaspers won in very good 22 shots with 40:35 against Leppens and Barry van Beers lost with 28:40 in 24 shots against Forthomme. Due to the good team performance against France, the Netherlands had the best MGD with 1,698 and were group winners.
The World Cup was very disappointing for Germany B. Stefan Galla and Ronny Lindeman were expected to advance in Group G. Stafan Galla in particular was far from his best form. So Germany B was only last. The Danes, on the other hand, presented themselves in very good shape. In the crucial game against Japan Tonny Carlsen and Brian Hansen achieved their best tournament result. With a smooth 4-0 win, they played an MGD of 1,739.
Record world champions Sweden awaited Korea B and Austria in Group H. In the first game the opponent was Korea B. Torbjörn Blomdahl started with a great game. He won against Cho Chi-yeon with 40:14 in only 14 shots. Mikael Nilsson lost against Kim Hyung-kon with 35:40 in 26 shots. In the second round Korea B won against Austria smoothly with 80:53 in 47 shots. So Sweden had to win against Austria too. Blomdahl won 40:35 in 27 shots against Andreas Efler. Since Nilsson only reached a draw against Herbert Szivacz, Sweden was eliminated.

Final round
comment
The first quarter-final match of the final round took place between Denmark and the Netherlands. Again Denmark performed well. After a hard fight, Tonny Carlsen had to admit defeat to the multiple world champion Dick Jaspers. After 21 shots, Jaspers came out on top with 40:38. The second game was also hard-fought. In the end, Barry van Beers won 40:36 in 27 shots against Brian Hansen.
According to the regulations, if two teams from one country are represented in the knockout phase, they must play against each other. So it came in the quarter-finals to the game Korea A against Korea B. Here Korea A showed that it is a real title contender. With 2,285 MGD they played their best game in the tournament. Heo Jung-han won in 15 excellent shots with 40:21 against Cho Chi-yeon. Cho Jae-ho continued to play at the very highest level. He won against Kim Hyung-kon with 40:29 in 20 shots.
The third quarter-final match between Turkey and Germany A was a thriller until the last minute. Martin Horn lost after a clear lead with 39:40 against Tayfun Taşdemir. It was his first loss in the tournament. Christian Rudolph showed his best tournament performance and won against Adnan Yüksel with 40:25 in 24 shots. This was the first time that the newly introduced decision set up to 15 in Scotch Doubles mode was introduced. Turkey started with 5 points. Germany missed through Rudolph. Turkey scored another 2 points to make it 7-0. Germany made 3 points and came up to 7: 3. Then Turkey increased by 7 points to 14: 3. Germany scored 10 points in the fully occupied festival hall. Martin Horn missed the 11th point by a very thin margin. Tayfun Taşdemir then turned the match point to 15:13 with the next attempt.
Defending champions Belgium A against Spain was the fourth quarter-final match. Frédéric Caudron started very mixed for his standards. Against Ruben Legazpi it was 24:20 after 14 shots. But then Caudron ended the game with the tournament high series of 16. In the second game of this encounter between world champions Daniel Sánchez and Eddy Merckx, Sánchez finished the game in the 27th recording. In the follow-up, Merckx had to score two more points to avoid the Scotch Doubles. He succeeded and Belgium was in the semi-finals.
The first semi-final between Korea A and the Netherlands ended in a draw. Thanks to a 14 series, Dick Jaspers won his game against the Korean Heo Jung-han with 40:27 in 22 shots. In the end, Barry van Beers lost out against the outstanding Korean player, Cho Jae-ho, with 32:40 in 20 shots. Thus the semifinals were decided in the Scotch Doubles. The Koreans consistently used their chances and won with 15:10.
In the second semi-final, Frédéric Caudron once again showed his extra class. With his win of 40:12 in just 12 shots, Adnan Yüksel had no chance of winning. In the second game, Tayfun Taşdemir showed that he can beat any opponent. Against the multiple world champion Eddy Merckx he remained unbeaten in this tournament and won with 40:25 in 16 shots. The decisive set was then a clear matter for the Belgians, the final score was 15: 7.
The final between Korea A and Belgium A was a very competitive match. Cho Jae-ho continued to show his class, brought Frédéric Caudron the first tournament defeat and remained unbeaten at this world championship. The end result was 40:33 in 21 shots. Eddy Merckx prevailed against Heo Jung-han with 40:32 in 25 shots. This was the fourth time the newly introduced Scotch Doubles took place. Korea won the kick-off and started with 5 points. The Belgians followed up with 7 points. Korea failed to score a collision and Belgium added 6 points. The result is 5:13. Korea responded with another 5 points, followed by Belgium. After a point for Heo, Cho misses a resolvable point and passes to Caudron. He releases the position and hands over a relatively simple preliminary assembly line to Merckx. This surely solves the point to the final score of 15:11 and Belgium is world champion for the fourth time in a row.
