Career

At the age of only 19 Legazpi made the leap into the international three-cushion scene when he won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championship in Gandía, Spain in 2001 , together with his compatriot José-Maria Mas and behind the Greek winner Filipos Kasidokostas and another compatriot, Carlos Crespo. A year later, in 2002, another bronze medal, this time at the European Junior Championships in Leuven , Belgium, behind Frederic Mottet from Belgium, Kasidokostas and the grandson of Raymond Ceulemans , Peter Ceulemans. Then in 2003 the gold medal at the European Junior Championships. At the three-cushion World Cup 2009/5 he came on the podium for the first time in Hurghada, Egypt and received the bronze medal together with Tayfun Taşdemir . At the third tournament in 2013 in Corinth , Greece , he reached the final, but had to admit defeat to the Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl .

At the Spanish Championship 2018, after five bronze medals, finally the gold medal, the defending champion of 2017, Javier Palazón , came third. The "eternal" winner, Daniel Sánchez , was eliminated this time in the round of 16. In 2019 Legazpi was able to defend his title in Valencia and prevail against Palazón in the final. An achievement that only Daniel Sanchez achieved before him. In the course of the tournament he met his father, Alfonso Legazpi. The game has been described as very emotional. Legazpi has won a total of 30 Spanish medals by then, 6 gold, 9 silver and 15 bronze. This puts him in fourth place among the most successful Spanish three-cushion players.
