The three- cushion world cup 2009/5 was the fifth and last UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 23rd year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from December 6th to 12th, 2009 in the Egyptian diving paradise of Hurghada . It was the seventh World Cup tournament in Egypt since 1994.
history
For the second time since 2005, the Belgian all-rounder Frédéric Caudron was able to secure the overall World Cup victory. His victory in the first round against the multiple junior world champion Kim Heang-jik was enough for him to take an unassailable lead in the points classification. For the first time in Hurghada, two players managed to finish a set in one shot in a tournament. The Korean Kim Kyung-roul managed this feat in the round of 16 against Tayfun Taşdemir and Daniel Sánchez against his compatriot Ricardo Garcia Alarcon. The Belgian Jozef Philipoom caused the surprise of the tournament. In his five games he had to go into the fifth set four times. So also in the final, here he was 1: 2 sets behind. With great fighting performance he still wrestled Torbjörn Blomdahl with 3-2 sets. It was his first World Cup victory.
