The three- cushion world cup 2004/4 was the fourth UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 18th year of the three- cushion world cup. The tournament took place from July 25 to 31, 2004 in this discipline of carom billiards in the Egyptian resort of Hurghada . It was the second three-cushion World Cup tournament in Egypt after 1994 in Cairo .
history
The 100th three-cushion World Cup tournament brought some important results in the fight for the overall World Cup victory in 2004. The previous leader Frédéric Caudron started the tournament with a defeat against Nikos Polychronopoulos . Semih Saygıner, second in the ranking, fared not much better . In the round of 16 against the Colombian Jaime Bedoya, he had to end the tournament after five sets. Because the third of the ranking, the Dutchman Dick Jaspers , was eliminated in the quarter-finals, the decision on the overall standings was only about Torbjörn Blomdahl and Daniel Sánchez . Since Sanchez reached the final and beat European champion Murat Naci Çoklu with 3: 1 sets, Sanchez took the lead in the overall standings. So the decision will only be made at the last World Cup tournament of the year in Antwerp.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 168 . Vienna October 2004, p. 9-11 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
