The three- cushion world cup 1997/2 was the second UMB world cup tournament in the twelfth year of the three- cushion world cup. The tournament took place from February 5th to 9th 1997 in this discipline of carom billiards in Salsomaggiore Terme in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna . It was the first three-cushion World Cup tournament in Salsomaggiore Terme and the second in Italy.

history

After Christian Rudolph's first German World Cup victory in Seoul , the German billiards continued their good performance with two medals in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy. With second place, the freshly minted world champion Martin Horn secured his first podium in three cushion. In the final against Yilmaz Özcan from Turkey, Horn was already 13: 4 in the fifth set. Only two points were missing to win. But Özcan showed that he was the best player of the tournament. After four points, seven points followed in the next shot and the match was won 3-2 sets. Also Stefan Galla played very well again. He was only defeated in the semifinals by his friend Martin Horn with 0: 3 sets and finished third together with the young Dion Nelin.

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents.

Tournament mode

In the qualifying round in groups, two sets of 15 points each are played in round robin mode. The group winners qualify for the 1/16 finals. There are also 16 seeded players. From the main competition (1/16 final), all games are played on three sets of 15 points each. Third place has not been played since the 1996/97 season. This means that there is no game for third place and there are two third-placed players.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. SV = rate ratio
  3. GD = general average
  4. HS = maximum series
