Overjoyed, Kang hugs Sanchez after his victory. It was only the third victory of a Korean in the history of the World Cup.

The three- cushion world cup 2013/2 was the second UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 27th year of the three-cushion world cup. It took place from September 3rd to 8th 2013 in the "Guri Gymnasium" in Guri , South Korea . The city hosted this tournament for the first time, which has been held in Suwon since April 2008 .

history

qualification

As always with tournaments in Korea, the first qualifying round started only with Korean players. Once again, excellent performance was achieved here. 36 players achieved a tournament average of 1,180 in this round . Many of these players only play tournaments in Korea and do not participate in any other international tournaments. These achievements are not achieved in only a few national championships worldwide, in which only the best in the country are represented. Lee Tae-hyun made it through all four qualifying rounds into the main field and finished in 20th place.

Final round

In the first round of the main tournament there was only one surprise with Eddy Merckx's defeat against the Vietnamese Ngo Dinh Nai. In the round of 16, Torbjörn Blomdahl and Marco Zanetti lost two ex-world champions against Kang Dong-koong and Cho Jae-ho . Both Koreans showed great performances. The match of this round was the game between Jérémy Bury and Filipos Kasidokostas . The Frenchman ended this game with a final streak of 24  points. A series that is a new record in World Cup tournaments. Since the sentence system was played until 2012, no series greater than 15 was possible until then. Bury also confirmed his excellent form in the quarterfinals. He won against Dick Jaspers in 15 shots with 40:28. The match of this round took place between Daniel Sánchez and Frédéric Caudron . Sanchez finished the game in 27 shots. Caudron achieved the required four points in the second strike. Sánchez put up five points in extra time. Caudron could only counter with two points and was eliminated. The semi-finals saw two sure winners with Kang and Sanchez, with Sánchez's performance in 10 shots being the best of the tournament. In the final, Kang managed a series of 10 points in the second shot. He was able to maintain this lead until the end of the game. After Kim Kyung-roul and Choi Sung-won, he is only the third Korean to win a World Cup tournament.

Tournament mode

A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013.

  • The sentence system was abolished because the dullness was not calculable. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible.
  • The game distances were set at 30 points in the per-qualification rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined.
  • The shot clock was shortened to 40 seconds.
  • There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for three of the four associations CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC in which the World Cup does not take place.

Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the four best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series
