history

For the first time, an Austrian took part in a World Cup tournament with Christoph Pilss. The draw showed that he met the second player who qualified in the qualifying tournament in Spa, the Japanese Tatsuo Arai. After 2: 1 set lead Pilss lost 2: 3 sets. Also eliminated in the first round was the strong Japanese Jun'ichi Komori against the very defensive player Paul Stroobants from Belgium. The Dutchman Dick Jaspers , equipped with a BWA wildcard, showed a very good performance in his first World Cup tournament. He finished third with a 3-2 win in the game for third place against world champion Ludo Dielis . The two best players of the past few years met in the final. In a hard-fought final, Torbjörn Blomdahl defeated 21-time world champion Raymond Ceulemans with 3-2 sets.
