The three- cushion world cup 2004/1 was the first UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 18th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from January 7th to 11th 2004 in this discipline of carom billiards in Barendrecht in the province of South Holland . It was the second three-cushion World Cup tournament in Barendrecht.
history
After the problems of the BWA in the last two years, the UMB decided in conjunction with the CEB to organize the three-cushion World Cup tournaments on its own. Due to the constant cancellation of tournaments by the BWA, there should be another predictable World Cup season for the players. The tournament in Barendrecht was again perfectly organized. The Swedish record World Cup winner Torbjörn Blomdahl , who slipped to second place in the world rankings, dominated the tournament and secured his 32nd World Cup victory. In a high-class final he was able to defeat his long-term rival of recent years, the Dutchman Dick Jaspers, with 3-1 sets. After Jaspers was able to decide the third set with 15:14 after 0: 2 sets and led in the fourth set 14: 5, Blomdahl countered and ended the game with a final series of 10 points. It was the last time there was a game for third place. Since the winner and the loser received the same number of points for the world ranking, the game was of little value.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 163 . Vienna March 2004, p. 21-23 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
