The three- cushion world cup 1998/6 was the fifth UMB / BWA world cup tournament in the 13th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from August 13th to 17th, 1998 in this discipline of carom billiards in the Colombian capital Bogotá . It was the first three-cushion World Cup tournament on South American soil.
history
After seven victories by the two outstanding participants in the World Cup, Dick Jaspers and Torbjörn Blomdahl , there was once again another winner in Frédéric Caudron . Caudron won the final against the surprisingly strong American Carlos Hallon with 3-0 sets. Third place went to Raimond Burgman and Semih Saygıner . The tournament performances were not outstanding. Nevertheless, the World Cup tournament was very well attended. The tournament room, which had space for 1200 visitors, was sold out on all days. The coveted cards were traded on the black market with six to seven times the entry fee. In terms of popularity in Colombia, billiards only has to give way to football, cycling and bullfighting. Colombian television broadcast the tournament in great detail every day.
The exact price money could not be determined from the documents.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 109 . Vienna November 1998, p. 12-13 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
