The three- cushion world cup 2006/5 was the fifth UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 20th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from November 6th to 12th, 2006 in this discipline of carom billiards in Istanbul . It was the eleventh three-cushion World Cup tournament in Turkey.
history
The last World Cup tournament of the year was ended by a Turkish general attack on the three-cushion world. No less than eleven Turks were represented in the main field. There was also tension in the fight for the overall World Cup victory of the year. After Daniel Sánchez lost to a strong Martin Horn in the round of 16 , Dick Jaspers had an unexpected chance for the title. But that was done in the quarterfinals against Semih Saygıner . The Turk, who failed in the first round of the last three World Cups, beat Jaspers with a 3-2 set and helped Sánchez to the title. Istanbul is a good place for the winner Torbjörn Blomdahl . As in the previous year, he was able to secure the World Cup victory in the end. It was his 34th World Cup victory.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 189 . Vienna November 2006, p. 18-23 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
