Michael Geffert (born June 5, 1953 in Bonn ) is a German astronomer and worked at the Argelander Institute for Astronomy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . After his retirement he founded the Birtzberg Observatory in Bornheim, a non-commercial initiative to popularize visual, astronomical observation with posts on YouTube and Instagram. In 1989 he discovered a total of 5 asteroids at the La Silla Observatory in Chile .
The asteroid (12747) Michageffert was named after him.
