The three- cushion world cup 1987/1 was the first world cup tournament in the second year of the three-cushion world cup. It took place from October 23 to 25, 1987 in this discipline of carom billiards in Paris .
Like last year, the first three-cushion World Cup tournament of the year took place in the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in the French capital Paris. Again the best billiards player of the last 25 years, Raymond Ceulemans won . Against the young Italian Marco Zanetti , who surprisingly reached the final, there was a victory in the final with 3: 1 sets. The game for third place went to the Japanese Nobuaki Kobayashi against the Dutchman Rini van Bracht . The 25-year-old Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl competed in a World Cup tournament for the first time as a BWA professional and finished in 11th place. As in the previous year, media interest in Paris was very high. With a total of 8,000 spectators, it was again the best-attended tournament of the year.
The tournament was played with 16 participants. The whole tournament was played in the knockout system with three sets of 15 points each.
The first four of the world rankings (in this case Raymond Ceulemans, Jun'ichi Komori, Nobuaki Kobayashi and Rini van Bracht) were seeded for the round of 16.
If a set was completed by player one at 15 points, player two had no follow-up kick .

The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the " Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer. From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
