The three- cushion world cup 2008/1 was the first UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 22nd year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from 21st to 27th January 2008 in this discipline of carom billiards in Sluiskil . It was the fourth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Sluiskil.
history
The new World Cup season started traditionally in Sluiskil, South Holland. The tournament was a debacle for the seven Dutch who reached the knockout round. Only one made it into the round of 16. And only against a compatriot. In the second round, however, Jean Paul de Bruijn was also out . Against the world champion Ryūji Umeda from Japan there was a 1: 3 set defeat. The world number one Torbjörn Blomdahl also had to contest a difficult opening match . After a 0-2 set deficit against the Spaniard Ruben Legazpi, he was able to turn the match 3-2 sets in his favor. The final contested the Belgian all-rounder Frédéric Caudron and the Greek Nikos Polychronopoulos , who was in a World Cup final for the first time. But here he had no chance in his 3-0 defeat.

The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
