The Three-Cushion World Cup 2008/6 was the last of six tournaments of the World Cup season in 2008 in the category of collision and was held from 15th to 21st December 2008 in the "Hotel Hacienda la Boticaria" in Alcalá de Guadaíra , ( Andalusia , Seville Province ), Spain .

description

The defending champion of the overall World Cup was the Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl . After two second places in the 1st and 4th tournament and third in the 2nd tournament, the second place in this tournament was not enough to defend the title. The tournament and overall victory went to Dutchman Dick Jaspers , who had also won tournaments 2, 3 and 4.

From a German point of view, the world number eight Martin Horn and the seven-time German champion Christian Rudolph were there, the latter thanks to a wildcard from UMB . Austria was represented in the main field by Gerhard Kostistansky and Andreas Kronlachner. However, both lost their first round match against the Belgian Eddy Merckx and the Spanish wildcard player Rubén Legazpi . Christian Rudolph was then eliminated in the round of 16 against Spanish qualifiers José-Maria Más with a 2: 3 result. Martin Horn had no problems in his second game against the Peruvian Ramón Rodriguez, who was only one place behind him in the world rankings. After winning the first two sets with 15: 7 and 15:13, he gave the fourth relatively clear to the South American with 5:15, but was able to turn things around again and win the match with a 15: 7 . In the quarter-finals, world number three, Frédéric Caudron, was a tough nut to crack. He confidently sent him home with a "to zero game" 15:10, 15: 9, 15: 8 and the considerable GD of 1,800. In general, the quarter-finals resembled a "zero round". Only the Belgian Roland Forthomme was able to score a “goal”.

In the semifinals, both the leading German player Martin Horn and the leading Spaniard and last representative of the host country Daniel Sánchez had to give up the sails against the stronger Dutchman and eventual tournament winner Dick Jaspers and last year's winner Blomdahl. The Dutchman won the final relatively clearly in four sets 15: 6, 14:15, 15: 4 and 15: 7 with 3: 1.

The Italian Marco Zanetti played in the third set of round 1 the tournament's top series of 15 against the Belgian Eddy Leppens and thus managed to finish a set in one recording for the fourth time after 1997, 2004 and 2007. With four set wins in one shot, he holds the World Cup record ahead of Daniel Sánchez.
