The three- cushion World Cup 1995/4 was the fourth UMB World Cup tournament in the tenth year of the three-cushion World Cup. The tournament took place from April 12 to 16, 1995 in this discipline of carom billiards in Porto, Portugal . It was the first three-cushion World Cup tournament in Portugal.

history

The World Cup tournament in Porto was excellently organized by the host in a beautiful tournament venue. Unfortunately the billiards were not optimally adjusted. Thus the billiard balls did not always run correctly. Christian Rudolph had to accept this shortcoming in a very exciting semi-final. The German, who was fourth in the overall World Cup, quickly led 2-1 sets against Daniel Sánchez . In the fourth set Rudolph had match point and already raised his hands to cheer. To his horror, the ball tipped past the collision in the last few centimeters. Sanchez used the resulting chance and made the sentence with three billiards. In the fifth set, Rudolph, who lives in Cologne, again led 11: 6 and was very unlucky. He narrowly missed several crashes. Sánchez was luckier. With a "fox" he earned a match ball, which he also used. He had reached the final with it. There was a big surprise in the second semi-final. The clearly favored Eddy Merckx lost against his compatriot Leon Smolders with 2: 3 sets. The fifth sentence ended with the tightest of all results. Smolders won by 15:14 in 18 shots. In the final he had no chance against Sánchez. It ended with a clear 3-0 for the Spaniard. With that he won his second World Cup tournament after Athens. For the three other Germans, the World Cup tournament was a disappointment. After qualifying, the tournament for Martin Horn was already over in the first round against Merckx. Johann Schirmbrand and Christian Zöllner were eliminated in the second round.

Before the last World Cup tournament in Hooglede, Belgium, Daniel Sánchez won the overall World Cup in 1995. The current status is:

  • Daniel Sánchez: 152 points
  • Jorge Theriaga: 112 points
  • Rini van Bracht: 106 points

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents.

Tournament mode

In the qualifying round, two sets of 15 points each are played in round robin mode. The two best in the group qualify for the 1/16 finals. There are also 14 seeded players. From the main competition (1/16 final), all games are played on three sets of 15 points each. The small final for third place is only played on two sets of 15 points each

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:
