The three- cushion world cup 2008/3 was the third UMB / CPB world cup tournament in the 22nd year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from 25 to 31 August 2008 in this discipline of carom billiards in Irapuato in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It was the second three-cushion World Cup tournament in Mexico.
history
For the second time in the history of the three-cushion World Cup, a tournament was held in Mexico. The city of Irapuato in the heart of Mexico, which has little tourist interest, prompted very few Europeans, with the exception of the seeded players, and US Americans to make the long journey to Central America. So there was a relatively small field of participants. The tournament ended like the last in Portugal. In the final, Dick Jaspers and Daniel Sánchez faced each other again. And again the Dutchman won. Third place went to Marco Zanetti and Frédéric Caudron . The world number one Torbjörn Blomdahl has to fear for the top position in the rankings due to his defeat in the round of 16 against Ramón Rodriguez.

Three qualifying rounds were played in Irapuato. From the last qualifying round, the 8 group winners and the six best runners-up qualified for the final round. There were also wildcard players from the host and the associations from America, Asia and Europe as well as the UMB . The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
