The three- cushion world cup 2006/2 was the second UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 20th year of the three- cushion world cup. The tournament took place from March 10 to 16, 2006 in this discipline of carom billiards in Porto . It was the fourth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Porto.
history
Before the official qualification rounds began, a national qualification tournament was held on five days due to the many reports for the World Cup tournament. The official tournament started on April 10th. In the very first qualifying round, the Belgian veteran Paul Stroobants managed the feat of finishing a sentence in one shot. For the main tournament he could not qualify.
There were two big surprises in the first round of the main tournament. The current fourth in the world rankings Torbjörn Blomdahl was defeated by the Colombian Alexander Salazar, who is completely unknown in Europe, with 2: 3 sets. World number seven, Semih Saygıner, fared not much better . The Portuguese Mario G. Aranha also defeated him 3-2 sets. There were no other big surprises until the final. In a finale that was heavily influenced by tactics, world number one Daniel Sánchez prevailed against Dick Jaspers with 3-1 sets .

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 183 . Vienna April 2006, p. 10-15 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
