The three- cushion world cup 2016/6 was the sixth UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 30th year of the three- cushion world cup. It took place from October 24th to 30th at the Complexe Sportif des Salines in La Baule on the French Atlantic coast. It was the first three-cushion world cup tournament, a form of carom billiards , in France since 1992 in Orléans .
With a world class performance, the Vietnamese Mã Xuân Cường eliminated world number one Frédéric Caudron from the competition in the first round. For local hero Jérémy Bury , too, the tournament ended earlier than desired due to the defeat against former world champion Marco Zanetti . But his compatriot Jérôme Barbeillon was able to maintain the honor of the French by beating Cho Chi-yeon and also won the last sixteen against the Caudron conqueror Ma. With his second victory after strong performances, Torbjörn Blomdahl was well on the way to becoming the new number one in the world after Caudron's departure. In the quarterfinals he achieved his goal by defeating Nikos Polychronopoulos . The semi-final defeat against Daniel Sánchez was no longer decisive. In the final, Sánchez met Turkey's Murat Naci Çoklu who qualified for the last match through solid performances. The final ended with a not so clearly expected victory for Çoklu, who was at the top of the podium for the second time since 2015 in Istanbul.
A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013. The rate system was abolished because the match time could not be calculated. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible. The game distances were set at 30 points in the pre-qualifying rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined. The shot clock was on 40 seconds. Each player can take two extra times per match . This increases the peak time by 40 seconds. There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for three of the four associations
CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC in which the World Cup does not take place.
Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the three best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.
In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:
The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.
Wildcard players:
1 × ACC : Mohamed Zayed
1 × CPB : Javier Teran
1 × ACBC : Lee Choong-bok
2 × Organizing host: Jérémy Bury , Jérôme Barbeillon

Qualifying round
For the sake of clarity, qualification rounds 1, 2 and 3 are not shown. These can be looked up under the links at the UMB . In the last (4th) qualifying round, up to 40 points are played in groups A – L with 3 players each. The top three and the three best runners-up in the group go to the final round of the best 32. In the event of a tie, the better GD applies .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the " Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer. From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
