Seeded players

mode

The first round (qualification) is played on 25 points. The two best group members come into the main round. In addition to the 44 best in the group, there are the three best group thirds ( lucky losers ) and the players determined via an auction (2 ×) and lottery (1 ×) . From these 56 players 8 groups with 7 actors are formed. These groups are also played in round robin mode, this time to 35 points. The two best in the group then qualify for the final knockout round of the "last 16", where 40 points are played. The placements are determined in the play-offs . After two lost matches you are eliminated. Places three and four in the main group played out places 17-32. Again, they were eliminated after two lost games. As is typical for the USA, the entire tournament will be played without a kick .

Tournament commentary

qualification

The tournament is traditionally held as a mixed version. With Therese Klompenhouwer (NLD), Lee Mi-rae (KOR), Helga Mitterböck (AUT), Karina Jetten (NLD), Namiko Hayashi (JPN), Ryoko Kobayashi (JPN) and Natsumi Higashiuchi (JPN) take eight players from the previous Jennifer Shim International 2017 participated. The tournament second and six-time world champion Orie Hida from Japan could no longer apply, as well as Pedro Piedrabuena , best US player and reigning Pan American champion. The host Michael Kang will also play again, as will the reigning World Games bronze medalist Sameh Sidhom from Egypt. Placed in first place in his group, he surprisingly lost 23:25 against the unknown Colombian Andres Lizarazo, but made it to the next round in second place. His best game was against the American Ira Lee, whom he defeated in just 8 shots with 25: 6 (GD: 3,125). With a general average (GD) of 1.557, he was ahead of the first placed Colombian (1.202). Together with Martin Horn , Heo Jung-han and Kang Dong-koong he had the third highest with the highest series (HS) of 11, after Eddy Merckx (12) and the Dane Lars Dunch with 14 points. The Vietnamese Ngo Dinh Nai played the best game of the qualification against the Dutch Karina Jetten with 25:15 in 4 shots and a GD of 4,167, whereby jetten played her 15 points in only 3 shots. The Vietnamese Tran Quod Thai was not started despite the announcement. Of the six German players, the multiple German champion Martin Horn is given the best chance to reach the final round. Horn reached the main round unbeaten, where he in Group B Dick Jaspers hits. the Austrian Gerhard Kostistansky did one place better than Horn and in his group C meets the multiple world champion Frédéric Caudron from Belgium. In addition to Therese Klompenhouwer, Sruong Pheavy, Ma Minh Cam and Natsumi Higashiuchi could also earn a place in the main field as women. Tay-Dien Truong from Nuremberg made it into the main round as the second German.

Main round

The six invited players join the 44 qualifiers in the main round and complete the playing field of 56 players (8 groups of 7 players). Guest of honor Raymond Ceulemans did not play this time. The 80-year-old was exhausted enough to leave his place to a third lucky loser.

qualification

For the first time, 132 players will compete against each other in the group stage in round robin mode, more than ever before. Therefore there will be a total of 22 groups of 6 players each. That's already 330 games in the first round. The tournament management expects that the mark of 500 games will be broken by the end of the tournament.
