Nguyễn Đức Anh Chiến (born May 24, 1983 in Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese carom player in the three- cushion discipline .

Career

At the age of 11, Nguyen started playing billiards, initially with the classic disciplines ( free game , cadre and binding ) that are still popular in Vietnam , then switched to three cushion in 2009. He achieved his first national success in 2015 with a bronze medal. He reached his career high point so far in 2019 with the victory of the Vietnamese three -cushion championship , the bronze medal in October at the three-cushion World Cup 2019/5 in Veghel , the Netherlands , he had first defeated the Turkish Can Çapak in the qualification , came second in the main qualification and then sat in the knockout round first against Semih Saygıner and Torbjörn Blomdahl before he failed in the semifinals against Korean Kim Haeng-jik with 38:40, and the runner-up in the end of November in the Danish Randers . In the final he had to admit defeat to the Swedish old master Blomdahl with 37:40. Nguyen is the first player in his country to win a silver medal at a world championship. Until then, the bronze medals for Mã Minh Cẩm 2017 and Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện 2018 were the best placements. Thanks to the World Cup in Veghel, he rose to number 27 in the world rankings, after Randers to number 14. His first placement in the top 16 in the world, in Vietnam he was 8th at the end of 2019.

At the season final tournament of the three-cushion World Cup two weeks later in Sharm el-Sheikh , Egypt , Nguyen lost after a weak game against the Dutchman Barry van Beers ( individual average (ED) 0.809) and with only 1 point with 39:40 against group winner Can Çapak in the qualification of the final round.

Private

Nguyen studied English and lives with his wife and son in Long Thánh , a small town near Ho Chi Minh City , where the family runs a food business. As a balance to billiards, he plays football.
