Kim Haeng-jik (born March 31, 1992 in Suwon , South Korea ) is a professional carom player and world champion.

Career

Kim belongs to the young guard of exceptional players from South Korea who, since the 2000s, have been competing with the leading nation Belgium in the international three- cushion scene. At the age of only 15, Kim became Junior World Champion (U21) in three cushion for the first time in 2007. The following year he was third in Uccle , Belgium and was again world champion in 2010 in Hoogeveen , Netherlands and 2011 in Guatemala City . On October 27, 2012 he was in the final of a Junior World Championship for the fourth time. In San Javier , Spain he met the Vice European Champion (2012) Ömer Karakurt from Turkey , whom he beat with 35:27 in 23 shots ( ED 1.522). As the reigning world champion, he has the exception that he must be under the age of 22 on September 21st to be able to defend his title at the Junior World Championships in 2013.

Others

Kim lived for many years in Germany, where he plays for the clubs Mannheimer Billardfreunde and Horster Eck in Essen , but also in the Dutch league. In the summer of 2012 he had to go back to his homeland to do his military service there. He is one of the few left-handers, but also plays with his right hand to avoid the auxiliary cue . Like his compatriot Choi Sung-won , he hardly speaks English and needs a translator. His supervisor on trips abroad is William Oh, who is also a teacher at the Billiards Academy in Korea. He attended the same high school with his friend and 2011 World Cup final opponent, Kim Jun-tae from Seoul . Thanks to its success, the school now has a good reputation and many students want to learn to play billiards. Kim runs his own billiard room there.

On May 10, 2013, he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage that caused a stroke. He was immediately taken care of in the intensive care unit. A new cerebral hemorrhage prevented further treatment, but the doctors assumed they would be able to operate on him soon. After doctors decided to treat his meningoencephalitis (encephalomeningitis) with drugs instead of surgery, Kim was on the way to recovery. His trainer and confidante said:

“Haeng Jik is recovering very quickly, faster than many doctors expected. It seems that our desires have reached heaven. "

The bleeding in the brain could be stopped and he could be transferred to the general ward. In June 2014, Kim had fully recovered and had beaten the two best players at home. He is preparing for the World Cup in Seoul in the fall.

At the Survival 3C Masters 2019/4 he made it to the finals, but was there last (fourth) behind Semih Saygıner , Cho Jae-ho and Eddy Merckx .
