Orie Hida ( Japanese 肥田 緒 里 恵 , Hida Orie ; born October 4, 1975 ) is a Japanese carom player and multiple world champion in three cushion .

Career

Orie Hida is the daughter of the carom player Kazumi Hida. She lives in Tokyo, where she works in a department store, as she cannot make a living from the prize money in billiards alone. According to their own statements, their general average (GD) also suffers from this (2017: around 0.9). Until 2006 she won the world championship three times in a row and relegated her Dutch rival and friend Therese Klompenhouwer to second place before she won the gold medal in 2014. She often took part in three-band tournaments with her mother. Due to the poor funding in her own country, she is often unable to take part in international tournaments as one of the world's leading players, such as the 2014 World Cup in Sinop, Turkey . In 2017, after a long international break, she took part in the world championship in Zoersel , Belgium , and won it after the Danish Marianne Mortensen defeated her greatest competitor for the gold medal, Therese Klompenhouwer, in the quarter-finals.
