The Survival 3C Masters (3c = 3-cushion = three-band ), originally as a three cushion Challenge World Masters (English: 3-Cushion Challenge World Masters , briefly 3CC ) established a Karambolageturnierserie in the discipline three cushion that is discharged as invitational and 2018 has been added to the tournament calendar of the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB).
history
The success story of the Internet TV broadcaster Kozoom led the founder Xavier Carrer and the CEO of the Korean Kozoom.int, William Oh , to the idea of hosting their own tournament with high prize money. In 2017 the idea was so mature that only the world association UMB had to be persuaded to include the series, initially with three tournaments per year, in their calendar of events, so that there would be no overlapping of dates with the official tournaments. After the financing had been clarified, Carrer officially announced the alignment in February 2018, and UMB followed suit with its announcement on May 9, 2018. The first tournament is to open on July 12th in Seoul, also at the request of the main Korean sponsors. The Korean national association Korea Billiards Federation (KBF) is also involved in the organization.
The women's world champion Therese Klompenhouwer was the first woman to receive a wildcard for the extended 2019/4 tournament .
The 21-year-old Korean Kim Jun-tae played the most points in a survival tournament in qualifying for the main tournament in September 2019 in Seoul. Kim scored 183 points in 16 shots with a maximum series of 16 points. He improved the old record of 163 points, set by Eddy Merckx in November 2018 in Guru.
Tournament modes
MyWeb Sport (1st tournament only)
The first 20 players in the world rankings are eligible to participate. In addition, there will be four wild cards per tournament, making a total of 24 players. These will initially compete against each other in eight groups in the round robin in the preliminary round / qualification . The last of the group are eliminated and the remaining 16 advance to the final round according to the knockout system . In contrast to the conventional tournament modes, the 3CC does not play on sets or points, but on recordings. Each game is played on 20 shots, with player A starting the first 10 games, player B the remaining 10. The kick-off is, as usual, determined by the kick. The second big difference is that after a successful recording (points are won) the game does not continue, but a computer selects any position. This is done with the MyWebSport technology, which has been known for a long time , with a video camera (eye) and a movable laser pointer (setup system) above each table, both of which are connected to the computer belonging to the table. He records the position of the balls with his "eye", selects a new position and shows it on the table by laser, which the referee then puts down.
The system did not prove to be very attractive to Korean television because the winner had already made a great lead very quickly. So the tournament was already decided at halftime. From the second tournament onwards, the tournament will be played in the survival system, which is very popular in Korea.
“There are many good reasons to create such new rules. If we look at the World Cups, the World Championships and the Champion of Champions as the largest UMB event in three cushion, then it would not make sense to create a kind of competitive conflict between the new Masters tournaments and the existing UMB events. Our philosophy is unity. Secondly, we already offer more than 300 hours of TV shows with 40 points games through our Korean partner, TV broadcaster MBC Sports. When I discussed the new Masters series with them, their main concern was to be innovative, to create something new. The 3-cushion challenge is something else. Even removing the defensive game will not destroy the essence of the game. Each position of the balls poses a problem that you have to solve as well as possible in order to make the next point. A 3-Cushion-Challenge Match is determined by skill, not luck. The series are always played to the end during a recording. I think it will be very exciting for billiards fans. "
Survival (from 2nd tournament)
The system played at the first time did not prove to be very attractive to Korean television. Some matches, including the final, were decided very early on. So there was already a lack of tension at half-time.
The new system, called Survival 3C Masters , is new to non-Korean players. In Korea this system, called "book bang" , is played very often. The setup is as follows:
- The game is played in groups of four. A game lasts 90 minutes and is divided into two halves of 45 minutes each, there is a break of 5 minutes.
- Each player receives 30 starting points at the beginning of a half. Each collision that a player makes is worth 1 point. This is deducted from the others as a minus point. The minus points are credited to the active player, so he receives 3 points for each crash made. If a player makes a page of e.g. B. 5 points, the seated players are deducted 5 points, the active player receives 15 points.
player | To have good |
series | Points ± | Final stand |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 30th | 5 | +15 | 45 |
2 | 30th | 5 | -5 | 25th |
3 | 30th | 5 | -5 | 25th |
4th | 30th | 5 | -5 | 25th |
- Each player receives a break-in time of 2 minutes.
- The starting player (1st half) is drawn by the computer (CueSco). This player will be excluded from the second half drawing. He then plays in fourth position.
- The match does not start with the classic starting ball, but the referee randomly “throws” the balls on the table.
- The shot clock is set to 30 seconds.
- Each player has three overtimes per match.
- The players alternate in the recording.
- If a player has downgraded his points account to zero (0) in the 1st half, he can only continue playing in the 2nd half after receiving 30 points.
- In the event of a foul, the referee will "throw the ball" again.
- The match ends after 90 minutes, when the round of everyone in the same shot is over. The players are placed in the ranking according to the score. Evaluation for the ranking:
- Points
- Maximum series (HS)
- If two players have the same number of points in the end, the highest series counts. If two players have the same number of points, but only one can advance, there is a penalty round. The winner moves on to the next round.
