Eddy Leppens (born December 3, 1969 in Lommel ) is a Belgian carom player .

Private

Eddy Leppens was born in Lommel in Flanders and spent his childhood there. He is currently married to Iris Blondeel and has two children with her named Lindsey and Romy. In December 2005 he opened his own billiard shop Verhoeven Eddy Leppens .

Career

Early years

His father was an active billiard player, so Leppens picked up a cue for the first time when he was 12 and then started taking lessons when he was 13. From that moment on his career rose sharply. After many regional and later national victories, he rose steadily up the ranking. At 18 he was a player in the Honor Division in the free game , four years later in all six disciplines of carom billiards (free game, cadre 47/2, 47/1, 71/2, cover and three-cushion ).

Years 1993-2010

In 1993 Leppens won the Belgian Cup in three cushion, which became his preferred discipline from then on.

In 2002 he had his best individual average (ED) to date of 5,000 with 50 balls in 10 shots. In 2004 he made his best series (HS) with 25 balls. The following year he set a new world record with a team average (GD) of 2.139, teammates were Frédéric Caudron , Raimond Burgman and Johan Loncelle . He achieved all of his best performances in three cushion.

He achieved his best result so far in 2010 when he was runner-up in the three-cushion world championship.

2012/13 season

At the World Cup in Porto at the beginning of September, Leppens was able to prevail in his first group game against the German Markus Dömer with 40:14, but lost the second game against Lütfi Çenet from Turkey with 34:40 and thus missed the finals as second in the group .

One month later, at the ANAG Billard Cup , a triathlon invitation tournament in Olomouc in the Czech Republic , Leppens was able to secure victory in the final against Raul Cuenca from Spain 2-1 at the second edition of this tournament. The disciplines of cadre 71/2, cover and three-cushion were played. While he had to admit defeat to the Spaniard with 100:24 in the cadre, he was able to win in the one and three cushion with 50:27 and 15: 8. In the group stage Leppens was able to eliminate the reigning three-way world champion and third from the previous year Wolfgang Zenkner .

Together with Frédéric Caudron he plays for the Belgian club BC De Goeie Queue, among others .

UMB lock 2019

In spring 2019 Leppens signed a contract with the newly founded Professional Billiards Association (of Korea) PBA. Its sponsor, Kimchi Queues, is a co-founder and owner of the association. Since the PBA is not a member of the UMB, players who take part in PBA tournaments are banned from participating in the tournament for one year, up to a maximum of three years. This ended his UMB season at the end of the 2018/19 season. He then left the UMB.
