Markus Dömer (born February 14, 1969 in Dortmund ) is a German carom player , European champion and multiple German champion in three-cushion and cover .

Life

Dömer went to school (grammar school) in Mengede before he had to complete his 15-month basic training with the Bundeswehr in Lübeck in 1989 . In 1990 he began an apprenticeship as an insurance salesman at the Gerling Group . After successfully completing his training, he worked for various insurance companies before finally joining his current employer, the Zurich Group , in 2001 . He is employed there as sales manager in the Dortmund regional office.

He married his current wife on September 13, 2001, and they have had a daughter together since May 2008.

Like his colleague Wolfgang Zenkner , he has chosen the profession, playing three-cushion games at an amateur level.

Career

Dömer began his career in 1979 in the basement of the "BSC Mengede" playing tournament billiards . Since, to the chagrin of his parents and teachers, he spent a lot of time training there, the club soon became a second “home”. The first successes soon emerged: 1991 national champion in the free game . Dömer was now looking for new challenges in other clubs, especially at match billiards . Among other things, he played with the “Bvg. Dortmund ”,“ BC Langen ”and the“ BSV Kamen ”. The Dutchman Peter Volleberg from BC Eichlinghofen, where he also played, later directed him to the Dutch "Ehrendivision", to the "BC Apollo" in Deurne / Antwerp . There Dömer played with the international billiards greats Jean Paul de Bruijn and Frédéric Caudron in the cover.

His greatest achievement is winning the 2008 European three-cushion championship in the team.

In the 2012/13 season he played for BCC Witten in 1931 with which he became German champion. In September 2012 he took part in the three-cushion world championship in Porto for the first time . In the group stage he lost both games against Lütfi Çenet from Turkey and the Belgian Eddy Leppens and came in 38th of 48 places in the final standings. He criticized his own performance, but still judged the participation as positive and instructive. When he took part in the three-cushion world championship for national teams in Viersen in 2013 with the German B-team, he and his team-mate Ronny Lindemann took 13th place. Dömer had to admit defeat to the Vietnamese Ngô Đình Nại with 29:30.

In addition to playing billiards, he worked as a German-speaking journalist for the French Internet TV station Kozoom until the end of 2012 . After leaving, Markus Schönhoff took over this role.

Association work

In March 2019 it was announced that Dömer will succeed Kurt Dahlhaus as DBU sports supervisor . Dahlhaus is stepping down for reasons of age, the team World Cup in Viersen will be his last tournament, after which Dömer will take over. One of the first changes that Dömer made was the name change of the German Cup Team Championship (DPMM) to Team Cup three-cushion at the beginning of the 2019/20 season. The reason for the name change is the same name competitions in pool and snooker .

German three-cushion masters

Together with Jens Eggers , Dömer was the initiator and co-founder of the German Dreiband Masters tournament series (invitation tournament), which was launched in summer 2012 . The tournament was approved on July 12, 2012 by the German Billard Union (DBU). It is independent of their statutes, ranking points are not awarded. The 14 best German three-cushion players plus two wildcard players take part. For personal reasons, Dömer withdrew from the organization in early 2013. The first tournament, which is to take place annually after the end of the season, was held from May 31 to June 2, 2013 in Herten .
