Gustave van Belle (born April 12, 1889 in Gent , † February 3, 1969 ) was a Belgian carom player and multiple world and European champion in cadre .

Career

Van Belle was a commissioner for roads and bridges in Flanders . His specialty was the series game Cadre . As an amateur player, he won his first international medal in 1925 in The Hague at the Cadre 45/2 European Championship . The Egyptian Edmond Soussa was one of his strongest competitors in the battle for the gold medal .

As was customary at the time, players often still held positions with associations. Van Belle was a delegate member of the Belgian amateur association “Fédération Belge des Amateurs de Billard” (FBAB) in Brussels in the early 1930s. The FBAB was directly subordinate to the Paris-based world amateur association Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB), the predecessor of today's Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB).
