The Cadre 45/2 World Championship in 1938 was the 31st world championship, which was held in Cadre 45/2 until 1947 and from 1948 in Cadre 47/2. The tournament took place in Antwerp from February 20 to 23, 1938 . It was the third Cadre 45/2 World Championship in Antwerp after 1913 and 1930.
history
The Belgian René Gabriëls demonstrated his overwhelming playing strength at the time . He defended his world title unbeaten and improved all of his world records in Cadre 45/2. The general average over a tournament (GD) immediately improved from 35.59 to 45.90 . As the first amateur, he played a best individual average (BED) of 100.00 at a world championship . Until then, only professional players in the United States had achieved such performances. Here in Chicago in 1925 the American Jacob Schaefer junior played against Erich Hagenlocher the 400 points in just one recording, i.e. 400.00. Gabriëls also improved his top run from 1933 to 296 .
Tournament mode
It was played in the round robin system up to 400 points. In the event of a tie in MPs (except in the event of a tie for the winner), the following order will be used:
- MP = match points
- GD = general average
- HS = maximum series
