His Dutch competitors at the time were Piet van de Pol and Henk Scholte . In 1975 he became world champion in cadre 47/1 in his home town of Rotterdam and set a new series world record with 300. He ended his active career in the early 1980s after winning two silver medals at World and European Championships in 1980. Overall, during his 20-year career, in addition to the international titles, he was also 52 times Dutch champion.
