The 1978 Cadre 47/2 World Championship was the 42nd World Championship, which was held until 1947 in Cadre 45/2 and from 1948 in Cadre 47/2. The tournament took place from April 6th to 8th, 1978 in Rheden . It was the seventh Cadre 47/2 (45/2) World Championship in the Netherlands.

Never before has a Cadre 47/2 World Championship started with such a strong starting class. Were reported Ludo Dielis with 162.43 GD, Francis Connesson with 120.69 GD and Osvaldo Berardi with 112.53 GD. In a very exciting and high-class tournament, Connesson prevailed in the end. He only lost to Berardi. Ludo Dielis came second with all tournament best performances. He lost to Franz Stenzel and to Connesson. A surprising third place went to Dieter Wirtz from Düsseldorf. Dielis was the fifth player to play a game of up to 400 points in one shot at a Cadre 47/2 World Championship. That is the setting of the world record in the BED.

It was played in the round robin system up to 400 points. In the event of a tie in the MPs, the following order is taken:
