The Cadre 45/2 World Championship in 1933 was the 26th World Championship, which was held until 1947 in Cadre 45/2 and from 1948 in Cadre 47/2. The tournament took place in Cologne from April 5th to 8th, 1933 . It was the first billiards world championship in Germany.
history
For the first time, a billiards world championship took place in Germany in the then billiards stronghold of Cologne. After many good placements in recent years, the Egyptian Edmond Soussa won the title in Cadre 45/2. In the decisive game against defending champion Poensgen, however, there was an incident. Poensgen is already in a series with 149 points. The 21-year-old Belgian René Gabriëls achieved a new world record high series. In the fully occupied Gürzenich the audience is so enthusiastic and a railing of the grandstand collapses. A spectator falls into the hall. Poensgen continues his series but is completely out of step and ends the series with 153 points. Although he was leading with over 100 points, he still lost the game and only finished second. He improved the world record in the general average (GD) to 28.59 . The new world record series (HS) increased Gabriëls to 269 .
