Aron "Arie" Bos (born November 5, 1892 in Amsterdam , † January 15, 1962 in New York City ) was a Dutch carom player in the classic disciplines of free game and cadre .

Career

With Henk Robijns Jan Dommering and Jan Wiemers, Bos belonged to a golden generation of Dutch billiards players who were called the four musketeers. In 1921 and 1922 he became Dutch champion in Cadre 45/2. In 1921 he became world champion in Cadre 45/2 in Paris , after having become vice world champion the previous year. In 1923, Bos settled in the USA with the intention of starting a professional career in three- cushion. However, this intention did not meet fertile ground, there were too many and too good professional players in the USA. Although he married, he returned to the Netherlands, where he was initially not admitted to official competitions due to his professional games in paid sports, as it was exclusively amateur competitions at the time. In 1938 he was national champion in cadre 71/2, in the same year and in 1939 three-cushion champion . In 1939 he was second behind Alfred Lagache at the three-cushion European championship . Shortly afterwards he settled permanently in the USA, where he died in 1962.

Private

Arie was born to Samuel Bos (1866–1930) and Esther Hamburger (1869–?) And was married to the pool master Catherine Haywood (1896–?) From Philadelphia .
