Attractions

Parish Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption in Berbérust

The little church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Due to the earthquake of 1854, all of its walls are cracked, especially at the corners of the wall. The church has a single nave and a side chapel and in earlier times was headed by a non- clerical abbot who owned his house next to the church. Inside the church, grave slabs have been covered by a new cement floor. The altarpiece in the Claverie workshops in Lourdes bears a certain resemblance to the one in the church in Gez-ez-Angles, with the depiction of Mary made of gilded wood, surrounded by putti , against a blue background. As in the church in Juncalas, his medallion shows the scene of Mary's Assumption into Heaven, which is framed by John the Baptist and the Apostle Peter . Above the three-part tabernacle there is a roughly executed statuette with Mary and the baby Jesus and an imposing cross. The tabernacle dates from 1670 except for the wings, which date from the 18th century. A votive plaque made of white marble thanks the Good Shepherd for the return of the French prisoners of war in 1945.

Parish Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Lias

The church dedicated to John the Baptist is even smaller and nested in the surrounding buildings. Your bell gable has double recesses. The entrance to the porch from the beginning of the 17th century is protected by a canopy. Inside the church, the altarpiece has an oil painting showing the crucifixion of Christ . Mary and the apostle John stand next to the cross. It is framed by two statues made of gilded wood, depicting John the Baptist on the left and Saint Faustus on the right in the clothes of a bishop . The ceiling is covered with wood paneling . The gallery has a balustrade made of twisted wood.
