Germs-sur-l'Oussouet is a French commune with 110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement and the Lourdes-2 canton (until 2015: Lourdes-Est canton ).

The inhabitants are called Germsiens and Germsiennes .

Germs-sur-l'Oussouet is located about ten kilometers southeast of Lourdes in the historic county of Bigorre .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 670 in the second half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 100 inhabitants during short recovery periods until the beginning of the 21st century, before becoming more recently rose again to around 110 inhabitants.

The long-distance hiking trail GR 78, called La voie des Piémonts , leads from Carcassonne to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, also through the center of Germs-sur-l'Oussouet. It is considered the Camino de Santiago alongside the four main routes in France.
